Writing systems have evolved over thousands of years. To the young child, letters (and numbers) are abstractions. Introducing the straight line and curve as concepts (in a fun imaginative way) is a way to build the bridge, then seeing consonants manifest from objects in space (stories help), e.g. T from the form of a Tree, B from Basket or Bear. This process helps build a connection for the young child and motivates and supports them on their journey to writing and reading.
